Weekly Round UP: #1 Rated Prosecco,
Dessert Wine Of the Decade and A Chateauneuf
the Press Adores

'Tis the season to pop bubbles at every opportunity so we have something really special for you today which sells for less than $20/bottle after discount.

Generally speaking, we don't tend to drink much Cava or Prosecco at home. We usually prefer Champagne when we're feeling flashy or Cremants and Pétillant-Naturels for every day drinking, all of which are produced in France.

Today's Prosecco from Italy is the exception to the rule. We absolutely LOVE it.

Nino Franco's Rustico Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore is a DOCG in which grapes are grown in a smaller area on steep hillsides where some of the most concentrated Prosecco in the world is produced. No wonder it's so delicious!

This sparkler was recently awarded the NUMBER ONE WINE IN THE WORLD by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, beating out every white, rosé and red wine on the planet. That's certainly something to cheer about!

Let's head on over to the press because it's off the charts.

Nino Franco Rustico Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore (DOCG) NV

Nino Franco Rustico Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore (DOCG) NV "This luminous sparkler opens with aromas of jasmine, orange blossom and white peach. The crisp, refreshing palate doles out green apple, Bartlett pear and white almond alongside vibrant acidity and a silky mousse." (Wine Enthusiast)

"A delicious and fresh Prosecco that is dry and clean with subtle lemon and fennel notes and some spicy pears. Medium body. Fine bubbles and a fruity finish." (James Suckling)

James Suckling: 92 points

"One of the top sparkling deals in the world, the non-vintage Nino Franco Rustico Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore exhibits a beautifully refined mousse and fresh, tart apple flavors. The wine's crisp finish pairs it perfectly with delicate appetizers." (Wilfred Wong, wine.com)

Wilfred Wong: 91 points

"The golden color and peach nectar scent predict this to be rich, but a potent, nutty savor keeps it balanced. It finishes clean, tight and grippy - a mouthwatering aperitif." (Wine & Spirits Magazine)

Wine & Spirits Magazine: 90 points

This will definitely be on our roster of New Year's Eve wines. It really is sensational and it absolutely screams VALUE FOR THE MONEY.

$24.99/bottle every day. Solid or mixed case 20% discount brings it down to just $19.99/bottle. Wow, wow, wow!

WE JUST SCORED ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY COVETED DESSERT WINES IN THE WORLD FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME (and it was worth the long wait)

For several years we've been attempting to purchase a highly coveted dessert wine with zero success. It's been written up repeatedly in every major wine press with some of the highest accolades you could imagine and guess what? Here's the kicker. It's not a Sauternes or even a Vin Santo. Any guesses?

This dessert wine is produced in South Africa and you really do need to try it to believe there is something this extraordinary in a bottle. This is a must try for any serious wine lover. Even just once in your life. It's breathtaking. We just landed a very limited supply and we HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.

Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2013

Klein Constantia Vin de Constance 2015

"The 2013 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine was matured in 500-liter barrels for around 36 months. It has a beautiful bouquet with honey, quince, pressed yellow flowers and Mirabelle. It has wonderful definition and purity. The palate is very well balanced with a mellifluous texture and beautifully judged acidity as it just sashays along. It fans out on the finish with honey, quince, a touch of rhubarb and ginger, extraordinarily persistent in the mouth. This is awesome." (Wine Advocate)

Wine Advocate: 96 points

"Decadent and rich aromas of honey, apricot tart, treacle, caramel and dried white flowers. Very full-bodied with a dense palate of delightful fruit and wonderful sweetness. Long finish. Drink now or hold. Always fantastic." (James Suckling)

James Suckling: 95 points

"Ripe and unctuous, but steely too, with mirabelle plum, apricot, kumquat and quince flavors racing along, enlivened by green tea and ginger accents through the very lengthy finish. Muscat de Frontignan. Drink now through 2033. 2,000 cases made." (Wine Spectator)

Wine Spectator: 94 points

"High-toned scents of orange marmalade, dried apricot, piercing herbs, spices, honey and marzipan. Viscous and thick (my fingers are sticking to my keyboard), with just enough acidity to maintain its shape and energy. Supersweet dried apricot and honey flavors dominate. Finishes with a bittersweet citrus edge, a suggestion of golden raisin and palate-staining length. Wonderfully concentrated, silky wine with energy." (Stephen Tanzer, Vinous)

We opened a bottle of this Vin de Constance on Christmas Eve and we sipped it alongside some Italian soft Amaretti cookies and hazelnut Torrone from Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge. If we're dead honest, both of us were prepared to be completely underwhelmed, as we often are with dessert wines. This time was so very different.

This wine is a game changer. It steals your heart and your head and that doesn't happen very often.

Aside from the reviews above which help with illustrating flavor profiles, all we can tell you is that it's breathtaking. Ethereal. Sublime. We're so happy we finally had the opportunity to drink something this stunning and exquisite. We haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

As with most dessert wines operating at the uppermost echelon, it comes with a steep price but it's worth every single drop and then some. $74.99/500 ml bottle. Extremely limited supply in stock so press reply to order yours for New Year's Eve. If you include it as part of a mixed case you will receive 20% off so it comes down to just $59.99/bottle.

IT KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER

Domaine de la Solitude Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016 keeps steaming ahead in the wine press. It had already received 93 points each from the Wine Advocate, James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck, along with 92 points from Wine Spectator. Just this month it was awarded a 94 point, Editor's Choice award from Wine Enthusiast Magazine. This French wine hasn't been hit by the 25% Trump tariffs yet, so at $45.99/bottle BEFORE the 20% case discount it's worth stocking up before the new proposed 100% wine tariffs demolish the sale of all European wine in this country.
